*That’s ‘British’ for winning!
Ellexus Founder and Managing Director Dr Rosemary Francis wowed the crowd (and the judges) this week at the Host of Ideas “Female Founder of the Year 2012” competition. Her solid business pitch won her this year’s title and the 5,000 pound prize.
Host of Ideas is an online platform for connecting investors with business owners and entrepreneurs. Based in London and California, they make the connections that help get great ideas off the ground.
The entrants into the Female Founders competition were picked from a range of 80 businesses. Each of the finalists had developed a high quality product and taken it to market. Each of the participating women were preparing their companies for growth and success.
Judges had been sourced for their expertise in the investment sphere. We were honoured to have Judith Moreton, a businesswoman and Dealmaker for the UKTI Global Entrepreneur Programme, Julie Hall, the Founder of Women Unlimited, and Nick Jenkins, the Founder of Moonpig.com making up a panel of friendly faces with the eyes for detail.
Ellexus is humbled to have been able to take part with four other disruptive businesses. Among them, Rocktails was a close runner-up – we’ll be seeing the team again as their range of frozen cocktails hits the supermarkets and we watch them pitch to the Dragon’s Den later this year. Lucy Symons from Village Infrastructure also made a big impact on the crowd with her business model for supplying solar power lighting to third world countries.
Well done to everyone for creating such a fantastic event with an infectious energy… now the drinks are on us!
